The Ministry of the People Moves to Address the Senior Citizens’ Pension Backlog

The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services advises the public that it has taken prompt and decisive action to address the current backlog in the processing of Senior Citizens’ Pension applications.

Through its Social Welfare Division, the Ministry has identified specific challenges related to receiving information from the National Insurance Board (NIB) and the Immigration Division, which has affected the timely processing of some applications. As of today’s date, one thousand, four hundred and thirty-eight (1,438) immigration queries and two thousand, two hundred and ninety-two (2,292) NIB queries are pending further information for processing.

The Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, has indicated that the Ministry will engage in discussions with representatives from the Ministry of Homeland Security and the Ministry of Finance in an effort to address these challenges.

Following these discussions, the Ministry will finalise and implement a comprehensive action plan to ensure the efficient processing of all outstanding pension applications and to prevent future delays.

The Ministry remains committed to serving the elderly population with dignity and ensuring that all eligible citizens receive their senior citizens’ pensions in a timely and efficient manner.
