Minister Vandana Mohit Meets with UNICEF Representatives to Strengthen Social Development Collaboration

The Honourable Vandana Mohit, Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services, today welcomed Mr. Abdulkadir Musse Jama, Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for the Eastern Caribbean Area, during a courtesy call at the Ministry’s Head Office.

The meeting provided an important platform to deepen collaboration between the Ministry and UNICEF in their shared mission to address child poverty and strengthen child protection systems in Trinidad and Tobago. Key areas of discussion included expanding access to essential social services, enhancing data-driven approaches for targeted interventions, and developing sustainable strategies to uplift children and families most in need.

Minister Mohit emphasized the Government’s unwavering commitment to creating a society where every child can grow up in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment. She also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve the delivery of social services, with particular attention to strengthening the means testing process to ensure greater efficiency and fairness in the allocation of support to vulnerable populations.

The Minister further acknowledged UNICEF’s longstanding support in advancing national development goals and building more inclusive and equitable systems of care.

Mr. Musse Jama reiterated UNICEF’s commitment to working alongside the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to enhance social protection, promote early childhood development, and expand family support services. He welcomed the opportunity for deeper collaboration in these priority areas.
